The Orsay Museum

Art of the second half of the 19 sentury

The Orsay Museum is one of the highly appreciated museums of Paris. It has an advantage of an outstanding location and unusual building. A new train station was built here to the 1900 World Fair. But 40 years later it became out-of-the date with its too short platforms. It took years to take an important decision about the fate of the building. Since 1980s it had been transformed into a museum to house a collection of all the major art forms of the second half of the 19th century and first years of the 20th century. All trends and movements in arts of this period are presented here, including one of the richest collections in the world of Impressionists. The museum boasts a very rich collection of sculptures and decorative arts, notably the collection of furniture in Art Nouveau style.
